Generosity Fionn, the Celtic god from whom Vienna and Vienne both take their names, is humanized (euhemerized is the technical term) in Ireland into a leader of a warrior band, the Fianna or F enians. A great deal of Irish literature is devoted to contrasting the ideal heroes of the pagan world with the clerics by whom they were followed. If only the brown leaf were gold The wood sheds when the year is old, Or if the waves had silver spray These too would Fionn have given away.
